Photography Workshop FAQ
Straight, candid answers to the questions we’re asked every week about our astro, landscape & seascape workshops across Queensland, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and New Zealand.
Who runs the best astrophotography workshops in Queensland?
Short answer: Knighty’s Photography leads ultra-small-group Milky Way workshops at dark-sky sites such as Borumba Dam, just 2½ hours from Brisbane.
Do I need photography experience to join?
No. We start on-location with a quick-start guide and give one-on-one help. Absolute beginners through to seasoned shooters are welcome.
What gear should I pack for a seascape sunrise?
Suggested kit: a sturdy tripod, a wide-angle lens (≈14–24 mm) and a remote shutter. Filters are optional — bring them if you have them. I can also steer you toward NiSi discounts if you’re upgrading.
When is the best time to photograph the Milky Way on the Sunshine Coast?
February – October. Early season = core rising in the east; late season = core setting to the west. Our Sunshine Coast Multiday hits both windows.
How big are your workshop groups?
Four participants max. Small groups mean zero crowding and plenty of one-on-one coaching.
What if the weather turns bad?
We pivot to backup locations, indoor editing or reschedule at no cost if conditions are unsafe.
Are editing sessions included?
Yes — daily Lightroom & Photoshop tuition, plus lifetime access to our upcoming Knighty’s Editing Vault.
What is your refund & reschedule policy?
Refund & Reschedule Policy
• 90 days or more — 100 % refund
• 60–89 days — 75 % refund
• 30–59 days — 50 % refund
• Under 30 days — no refund unless we re-sell your seat (then 100 % back)
Deposits
• 30 % deposit secures your spot; non-refundable but transferable once ≥ 60 days out.
Late bookings (≤ 60 days)
• Full balance due on booking; same refund ladder applies.
Tip — travel insurance is strongly recommended. See the full policy.
Do you provide accommodation or transport?
All multiday workshops — except Sunshine Coast — include airport transfers and single-occupancy 4-star rooms; Sunshine Coast trips are self-drive and self-lodge.
Are there beginner-friendly workshops near Brisbane?
Yes — the Sunshine Coast Masterclass, Sunshine Coast Multiday and Gold Coast Multiday each cover fundamentals, sunrise, sunset, astro and studio editing.
Do you run photo tours outside Queensland?
Yes — annual expeditions include Uluru (NT), Kiama (NSW), Sapphire Coast (NSW), Pinnacles Desert (WA) and the South Island of New Zealand. Tasmania and the Great Ocean Road are on the radar for 2026/27 — join the priority list to vote for them.
How do I book or join the waitlist?
Use the Book Now button on any workshop page; sold-out dates show an instant waitlist form.
